Corporate Social Responsibility campaign: Household e-waste recycle campaign

As an effort to promote corporate social responsibility, the organisation organised a campaign for employees to voluntarily bring household e-waste for recycling. In return, the contributing employee will get a cash rebate depending on the items collected.

What is household e-waste?
Electrical and electronic appliance which are not in use by the original user and does not bring any value to the user. Eg. PC, TV, radio, refrigerator, washing machine, air-conditioner, printer, mobile phone, DVD/VCD player, mobile phone battery & etc,

Why do we need to recycle household e-waste?
It gives an adverse impact on human health and the environment. For instance,

  • Electroplating process involved in computer circuit manufacturing uses several types of heavy metals;
  • Computer chip production involves the usage of chemicals such as organic & inorganic acids and solvents.
  • e-wastes are ignitable, corrosive, reactive & toxic!

All these substances are affecting human health as well as damaging the environment. Therefore, it requires a proper disposal method and management.

Do you know SCHEDULED WASTE (SW110)?
In Malaysia, e-waste is listed as one of the schedule wastes with the code SW110 under Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulation 2005, Environmental Quality Act 1974.
